Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 30, 2026 ยท Applies to the Diwara iPhone app and diwara.app

Diwara is a family location app. That means we handle some of the most sensitive data there is โ€” where your family is. This policy explains, in plain language, exactly what we collect, why, who can see it, how long we keep it, and how you can delete it. If anything here ever changes, we will update this page and note the change date.

The short version

What we collect and why

DataWhy we collect itLinked to you?
Precise location (including in the background, if you allow "Always") App functionality: showing Circle members where you are, place arrival/departure alerts, SOS alerts, and your location history. Yes
Name and email address Your account: signing in (Sign in with Apple or an email code), showing members who is who in a Circle. Yes
User ID App functionality: connecting your account to your Circles, devices and settings. Yes
Purchase history If your Circle has Premium: confirming and managing the subscription through the App Store. Yes
Device push token and battery level Sending you place/SOS/check-in alerts, and showing your battery level to your Circle so a dying phone is not a false alarm. Yes

What we do not collect: your contacts, photos, browsing history, health data, advertising identifiers, or anything from other apps. Diwara does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

Who can see your location

Only members of Circles you belong to. Joining a Circle requires an invite code from that Circle. Circle organizers can see the member list; no Diwara employee access path exists for browsing user locations in the normal course of operations, and we do not provide location data to third parties for marketing โ€” to anyone, for money, ever.

We use a small number of service providers strictly to run Diwara (cloud hosting and database). They process data on our behalf, under contract, and for no other purpose.

Background location

If you grant "Always" location permission, Diwara can tell your Circle when you arrive at or leave a saved Place (like Home or School) even when the app is closed. iOS shows you this is happening and reminds you periodically. You can switch to "While Using" or turn location off at any time in iPhone Settings โ†’ Diwara โ†’ Location, or pause sharing inside Diwara โ€” paused members appear in their Circle without a location.

How long we keep data

Children

Diwara is for families, organized by an adult account holder, and is intended for users 13 and older. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly create accounts for children under 13.

Your choices and rights

Security

Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest by our cloud providers. Every request to view location data is checked against Circle membership on our servers โ€” the app alone is never trusted to decide who can see what.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that affects how location data is handled, we will announce it in the app before it takes effect. The current version will always be on this page.
